I will NEVER EVER EVER EVER buy shipping insurance through this company again. I'm an Etsy Seller and its the only insurance offered through Etsy shipping (I intend to write to Etsy and ask them to change this...)

You won't believe the hoops you have to jump through to get your money when the shipment is damaged.

I cannot tell you how annoyed and frustrated I am with this process. I've filed insurance claims through USPS probably 4 times and it is always a relatively smooth process. Never again, Shipsurance.

I hope your company crashes and burns... you are absolutely useless...

Reason of review: Not as described/ advertised.

Did you call the California Insurance Commission and file a complaint? The insurance industry is heavily regulated and they will investigate your complaint against Shipsurance. Also, it looks bad on their license to have unresolved complaints.

I completely agree with you and the other commenter. I'm also an Etsy seller and other platforms too selling vintage and antique items.

Shipsurance is the only insurance Etsy and the shipping label company I have uses. Out of a few thousand packages I've shipped, I've had 4 claims. The last 2 were absolute nightmares. My customers had mangled packages with broken items and Shipsurance wanted to make my customers go through the hassle of getting quotes for repairs that hardly any company does.

They don't want broken then repaired items. They just want a refund and to ship the item back. The last claim they wanted to give a partial refund to a set that is no good if the main item is missing. So in both instances I lost a substantial amount of money because I am obligated to refund the customer the entire amount.

Insurance is supposed to help against losses. Shipsurance doesn't help that. I to am going to ask Etsy to find another company. I'm also looking into a different company for my website.

It's bad customer service to mandate a buyer to jump through hoops and then have to wait so long to get a refund. The third claim I had took over 3 weeks even though all the documents were submitted within the first week!

It's like having homeowners insurance and something happens to your roof and the insurance company only pays for part of it even though you paid for full coverage. You need a whole roof!

I agree that Shipsurance is insurance company that makes up rules contrary to what UPS, Fed Ex and Amazon policies dictate. Shipsurance has terms and conditions which says that the item must stay with the customer until the claim is completed and the pictures are taken.

They threaten they will not pay the claim if the customer, UPS or Fed Ex ships the item back to you the shipper/seller, which will happen automatically after a carrier inspects the damage. Shipsurance tells you that you cannot have UPS pick up the item, you must have an "onsite inspection", because they want the item to stay with the customer. UPS so far will not do onsite inspections, and the claim process online generates an inspection pick-up from the customer within 24-48 hours. Then Shipinsurance requests a 3rd party evaluation that the item cannot be repaired or the cost of repair.

Shipsurance expects the customer to pay and get a 3rd party evaluation. 99% of customers will not comply with that request, so Shipsurance wins and does not pay. Next they want the customer to take a picture destroying the item if they pay the seller (assuming this customer has jumped through all the hoops). The customer also has to sign an affidavit.

Customers will not do all of this work. Customers want a new item or their money back. These requests by Shipsurance are purposeful because they know customers will not do all these requirements.

There is nothing in writing in the terms and conditions that spells out that the customers have to do all this work for Shipsurance. Companies like Etsy and Shipstation will continue to use Shipsurance unless we make it public and blog about their "bad faith" insurance tactics to avoid paying claims.

Cindy - It is my experience that UPS will not generate an onsite inspection if the item is under $100. If you are using Shipsurance, isnt the item always under $100 with UPS?
